NRG Energy, Inc. Joins the Retail Energy Supply Association as Its Newest Member

HARRISBURG, Pa. and HOUSTON (February 11, 2025) – The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA), the nation’s leading trade association representing competitive retail energy suppliers, announces NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) has joined the organization as a member.

“We would like to welcome NRG Energy as a member of RESA,” said Edwin Dearman, president of RESA. “We look forward to their leadership joining us in advocating for competitive energy markets and consumer choice.”

NRG sits at the intersection of energy and home services. The company focuses on creating innovative solutions that make its customers’ lives easier – helping them power, protect and intelligently manage their homes and businesses. With approximately eight million residential consumers across the U.S. and Canada and its commercial, industrial and wholesale customers, NRG is one of the largest competitive energy retailers that deliver sustainable solutions under brand names such as NRG, Reliant, Direct Energy, Green Mountain Energy and Vivint.

“We are excited to join RESA’s diverse network of suppliers and to combine our efforts aimed at ensuring the retail energy market remains competitive,” said Mike Rombach, VP and general manager of NRG Consumer. “We look forward to working together to advance policies and initiatives that enhance customer value and promote consumer choice.”

“RESA has been a leading voice in the retail energy industry for over 20 years, recognized for its impactful advocacy efforts. Our dedication to supporting our members and advancing competitive electricity and natural gas markets for the benefit of consumers,” commented Tracy McCormick, executive director of RESA. “We look forward to collaborating with NRG’s leadership on advancing competitive markets in the U.S., providing consumer education on choice, and working in partnership with legislators, regulators and commissioners to ensure consumers are protected.”

RESA advocates for consumer choice in 13 states and the District of Columbia, representing a diverse group of retail electricity and natural gas providers. As leaders in retail energy restructuring, RESA members actively engage with state public utility commissions, legislatures, and FERC to address critical policy issues, fostering open dialogue with policymakers and decision-makers.

Each market has a dedicated policy monitoring group focused on electricity and natural gas issues. Members elect a chair to lead these efforts, ensuring proactive oversight of policy developments impacting retail competition. These groups track legislative, regulatory and administrative actions related to electricity and natural gas at the state level.

At the end of 2023, NRG operated in electric and/or natural gas markets in 25 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and eight provinces in Canada, as well as Vivint, which served customers in all 50 U.S. states. NRG’s retail brands, collectively, have the largest share of competitively served residential electric customers in Texas and nationwide.
